🏡 Reflections on coming home from Toronto

🗓️ Our first virtual Explorers Meetup

🧭 Current Explorations

Birthday special ends this weekend

Returning home to Olympia from Toronto brought a whole different set of feelings than I anticipated.

We descended from the clouds just before sunset. The waters of Puget Sound were aflame, reflecting the pink and orange sky. In the distance, Mount Rainier (Tahoma) dominated the view, silhouetted by the same fiery colors reflected in the waters to the west.

My heart swelled knowing that forevermore, at the end of each adventure, this is where I will return. After forty-four years, it’s a brand new experience to truly love the place I live.

On my way to the gym the next morning, tears welled and my throat tightened as I drove through the towering canyons of my tree friends covered in shades of gold, crimson, and green. I wondered at my good fortune, how all the wild and wandering roads led me here, to the first place where I've felt like I belong.

Now that I’ve found my home, I can see that part of my wanderlust over the years has been a search for exactly that. Though there’s still a whole lot of world I want to see, it’s a welcome sensation to have a place I look forward to returning at the end of my next exploration.

Though I don’t know precisely what this next season of life has in store, I’m eager to find out! I’m curious to discover how this feeling of connection and belonging to a place changes how I’m able to show up for all the other elements of my life, community, and work.

🧠 Food for Thought:

  • Which places or landscapes (forest, ocean, mountains, etc.) feel like home to you?
  • How does your sense of 'home' play into your desire (or not) to travel and explore?

🗓️ Mark Your Calendar: It’s time to start a monthly Explorers Meetup! This is an hour to gather with others who are building a life outside the lines. We’ll share adventures, insights, challenges, and celebrations. Click here to RSVP and get info to access the call!

  • Date: Thursday, November 20th
  • Time: 11 AM Pacific / 2 PM Eastern / 7 PM UTC
  • Location: Zoom

Current Explorations 🧭

🌎 Intentional Travel: I’m headed to the Author Nation conference in Las Vegas on Sunday! Putting myself in a place where I’ll be surrounded by other writers and authors is my way of letting Life know that I’m ready to join their ranks. I expect to feel like a fish out of water and be totally overwhelmed with all the new information. Good thing I’ve had a lot of practice at starting over and being the new kid! Bring on the new information, connections, and magical moments!

🏡 Everyday Adventures: It’s official! We’ve found our next home! It feels like the final piece of the transition into our new life, and we’ll be moving in after I return from Las Vegas. I’m actually excited to do domestic shit like intentionally create cozy spaces and map out plans for a fairy forest in the backyard.

✨ Inner Journeys: Ooh, lord. Reflecting on the last year has brought up some interesting observations about the internal narratives that hold me back. I’m so very bored with them! It’s time to add them to the compost pile and move on to something far more interesting. I’m certain I’ll share more as I process all of that!

That’s it for this time, friend! I hope to have time to send an email once I’m back from Las Vegas, but I also know that moving into a new place is a whole ass job of work!

Until next time, adventure on! 🙌

Cheers,

Annie

If you knew how many different times I’ve started, deleted, and restarted this email, you’d probably think I’m losing it! (Maybe I am!) 😜 While I have much to share, finding the words is proving to be more difficult than usual. In the interest of conserving time and energy on both our parts, I’ll do my level best to keep this concise. The new beginning that was ushered in with the Year of the Fire Horse has been shaking things up in more unexpected (and beautiful) ways! Plot Twist: I accepted...

Damn, I’ve been struggling to sit down and put words on the page lately. Even this supposedly simple email has felt like a monumental task. Not because I don’t want to write, but because there’s so much happening! Much of it is still playing out, and I don’t quite have the words for it all just yet. Suffice it to say that pretty much every area of my life is getting a complete fucking overhaul right now. 🔥 Though I’ve never really followed Chinese astrology, what I am familiar with feels...
